In Voyeur 23, Christian Audigier uses a series of short stories to create an engaging narrative about the process of building trust and confidence between a man and a woman. This story is one that takes place in France. Audigier sets the stage with the story of the voyager who has landed on a beach in the middle of nowhere.
A man comes to this woman’s house and introduces himself. The man is married, but he invites her over for dinner with him as his wife would never dare to invite herself over to a man’s house. After dinner, the man tells his wife about the place where he works. He then shows her a secret passageway that leads to a private, secluded area.
As she goes through her diary, the woman begins to think about her husband and the secret passageway. She also begins to wonder whether there are other people who live in the area who know that he works at the same secret place.
Voyeur 23 is an interesting, suspenseful, yet at times lighthearted read. It is full of humor and it is set in a very romantic setting. It makes use of a variety of images to create the ambiance of the book.
As Voyeur 23 progresses, the story is told from the perspective of the man as well as the woman. The characters speak in a language that seems more casual than French.
While she is still skeptical about the existence of other people in the area, the woman’s mind begins to race. She wonders how the person knows where to find a private, secluded area where he can work from his office. In addition, she is wondering if she will be able to protect herself from this person who is stalking her. The man is so innocent about his job that he often does not tell her that he works for a spy agency.
The romance in this book is what helps make it different from the many mystery novels written today. Unlike many mysteries that have been written in the past, Audigier creates a mystery through the use of a series of short stories rather than a long novel. The short stories help to build intrigue as they unfold over the course of the book.
Audigier manages to tie each of the short stories together beautifully. He describes the scenery and people he meets along the way and his interactions with each of these people. The book is a fun, intriguing read.
